Happy Birthday, Stefanie!!

Yes, it's Halloween.
But, more important, it's Stefanie's birthday!!

(I have at least a hundred more pictures of the two of us. :) )

How good it is to have such a wonderful friend in my life!
I hope you had a wonderful day, Stef!

Happy Halloween!

We tried. :)

Ben's new job

I love Ben's new job.
More important, Ben loves his new job.

This is what he found on the restroom door on his first day of work:

So, naturally, he heads up to the 3rd floor...
Only to discover the building only has 2 floors.
Punked!

I love it!

Reminds me of my days at Mt. Hope.
We would do things like hide this creepy little naked baby in each other's rooms/purses/coats/etc.
Oh, how I wish I had a picture of it.
It was disturbing, really.

Then, there was the coworker, who will go unnamed (though you KNOW who you are!), who would back her hiney into my office (while making the beeping sound of a truck in reverse), toot, and then run off.

Nothing beats working in a fun environment with people you like.
Nothing!

Chop-chop!

Anyone who has known me for at least 7 or 8 years knows I go through hair cycles.
Short, long, short, long...

A couple weeks ago I mentioned to Ben that I think I want to cut it off.
First he sang "No Air", by Jordin Sparks, but changing "air" to "hair".

"Tell me how I'm supposed to breathe with no hair
Can't live, can't breathe with no hair
It's how I feel whenever you ain't there
It's no hair, no hair"

He makes me laugh!

So, I thought I'd get some advice from Facebook friends via a status update.
I received many "DON'T DO IT. YOU'RE JUST PREGNANT AND HORMONAL!!" comments.
(Caps lock added by me. That's just the way I read them.)

But, those closest to me, the moms and best friends, said I should go for it.
It IS just hair.
If I hate it, it'll grow back.
I just didn't think it was that big of a deal.

I scheduled the appointment.

Here's the before picture:

And the after:

I also have a ziplock bag with a pony-tail in it to send to Locks of Love.
It's currently sitting on our table and it kinda grosses me out.
I've GOT to get it in the mail!

I cut it a week ago and have no regrets.
It's significantly easier to deal with and I like it!

A friend asked me why pregnant women feel the need to cut off their hair.
I don't really know.
I've wanted to do it for awhile now...long before getting pregnant.
My only theory is this:
During a time when you have minimal control over the changes happening to your body,
it's nice to know you still have control over a little bit of it, like your hair.

20 down, 20 to go!

We're finally at 20 weeks!
Our little girl is officially half-baked.

I think my "bump" is more like a mound.
It's not small and round like most I see.
It's flatter, and wider...like a mound.
Or maybe like one of those speed bumps they put in neighborhoods...
bumpy enough to slow people down, but not bumpy enough to hinder emergency vehicles.
Maybe it'll turn into a real bump soon.

Oh, and you may have noticed that I chopped off my hair.
More on that tomorrow. :)

BUSTED!

The other night Jack woke us up by shaking non-stop.
You know, like the wet dog shake.
But, he wasn't wet.

Ben got up and checked on him.
The shaking continued.

I got up and decided to clean out his ears.
That seemed to do the trick.

But, instead of locking him back in his crate, I decided to leave it open.

In the morning, Ben shut his crate before jumping in the shower.
When he went to let Jack out, this is what he saw:

In the back of his crate is a bag of cookies.
At some point during the night, Jack snuck out of our room, took the bag, and placed it gently in his crate.
He then went back to sleep, snuggling up to what (we can only imagine) he thought would be his treat as soon as we left the house.

At one point he looked back at the cookies, probably wanting to cry out,
"WHAT is THAT!? Who in the world put that bag in my crate!?"

Afterwards, he decided it was best to not make any further eye contact with the evidence.

We've known for a long time that our dog is just a little "off".
This just further supports the case. :)

Ben says he's taking after me.
For awhile I had an irrational fear of not having any food.
So, I'd pack snacks in my purse.
But! This is for a good reason.
One day I suddenly got so hungry I started to crying.
And I was by myself running errands around town.
I had to make an emergency stop at McDonalds for a cheeseburger.
This is 100% out of character for me.
I was desperate.
Since then, I hoard snacks in my purse.
I blame the baby.

It's a GIRL!! (Part 2)

Alright, here are the pictures I promised.

Here's our midwife, Jessica, and Ben carefully studying the ultrasound image.

I thought right away that I saw a little girl.
(I studied ultrasound pictures so I'd know what I was looking for. :) )
Jessica thought so right away, too, but didn't say anything until she got a really good shot.
She went on to get several more, so we know our child is 100% girl.

Afterwards, we went to the Golden Bee where we would meet our k-group friends and family.
We told them to be on the lookout for pink or blue balloons.
It was a fun way to share the announcement with some of our favorite people.
I just wish my family could've been there, too.
The trade off was that they were the very first to know, via text message.

The siblings:

Stefanie was so sweet to come down and accompany us to the ultrasound.
She has been at pretty much every major milestone of my adult life, so it was only natural for her to come to the unveiling, too.
She even took some pictures for us! :)

Ben's parents and Michael:

Some of the k-group guys:

And some of the k-group girls:

Debbie knitted these little booties for our daughter.
They are teeny-tiny and so sweet.
I love them!

It's a GIRL!!

Pictures and details to follow. :)

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

I should never had said that I wouldn't post again until tomorrow night when we find out the gender.
That was a big, fat lie.
I apologize.
The thing is, it's been a pretty exciting week around here.

Tomorrow is Ben's last day at SFP (Strategic Financial Partners).
It's a bittersweet time for us.
He has LOVED working there for the last (almost) 10 years.
He adores the people he works with.
They are so wonderful to him and have been like family over the years.
They've seen him graduate from college, get married, and have shared in the excitement of the baby on it's way.

Last night, they threw a going away party for him at the office.
His boss also wrote a tribute about Ben.
Click here if you'd like to read it.

His boss, Jim, and his bosses' wife, Teri, recently took a trip to Italy.
This is what they brought back for us:

Aren't they adorable!?
I couldn't get over how thoughtful it was of them!
We LOVE them and are sure Baby Bolt will, too.

I wanted to somehow show just how tiny they are.
So, I decided to have Jack model them.
It took an entire handful of Pirates Booty to bribe him into compliance.

Don't be fooled by the look on his face.
He did NOT like wearing the booties.
He did, however, like the cheese puffs. :)

Alright, back to the important stuff.
Monday begins a new chapter in Ben's career.
He is joining the team at the CCB (Church Community Builder).
We have been incredibly blessed by this opportunity!

This has been such a sweet season in our lives.
Thank you, Lord!

I lied.

I know I said earlier that the next post would be the big gender reveal, but I felt this was blog worthy.

I just felt the baby move!!

Yay! That was fun.
Do it again, do it again!

19 weeks- It's happening!

I think I'm showing a little bit!
Well, to strangers I just look like I have a beer gut.
Nice.

I saw this on another blog, so I thought I'd copy this week:

How far along? 19 weeks, 4 days. (I have a handy counter on my phone.)

Total weight gain: .0035 tons

Maternity clothes? Just jeans. They are the best! I may never go back to non-elastic pants.

Sleep: It's hit or miss.
The other day I had a dream that we had the baby, a girl. While I was out running an errand, Ben sent out a massive text message telling the world that we named the baby Mony Grace. I was SO mad at him, but felt like it was set in stone, so I had to live with it. I love pregnancy dreams!

The baby ran out of room in my pelvis and has moved up...away from my bladder. That's given me a break from the 2-3 potty trips a night. I'm enjoying sleeping through the night while it while it lasts!

Best moment this week: 100% not pregnancy related, but we bought new appliances today!! Ours were on their last leg, so we knew it was time. We wanted to get it taken care of before we had a newborn AND a broken refrigerator. The recession was in our favor today, as we got a great deal on them!

Movement: Not yet. Come on, baby mango!! I've even tried jumping/running around the house, all "She's a maniac, maniac..." style, then lying down really still. Nothing. No "bubbles" or "thumps". Nothing.

Gender: We'll find out on Friday!!!

Labor Signs: It's WAY too early for that.

Belly Button in or out? In.

What I miss: My pre-preg clothes. I'm so sad my favorite puffy vest is getting too tight to wear. It feels like I'm wearing a corset. Oh! And espresso, dark chocolate, and red wine. Not that I can't have a little of those things, they just don't appeal to me anymore. I hope that changes post baby!

What I am looking forward to: Friday! We get to find out the gender AND celebrate with family and friends!

Weekly Wisdom: I've been told not to cut my hair while pregnant. We'll see if I heed to that advice, or not.

Milestones: Developed my pseudo bump.

That's all for now!
Next post: It's a......

18...Better late than never, right?

Our router died earlier this week, so I had to wait for a new one to arrive to upload these from my computer.
Please excuse the delay.

I'm still not really showing.
However, one of the students I taught in Kindergarten last year came up to me today and said, "You were skinnier last year."
I laughed and told her she's right. :)

Last year I wore my wedding dress as my Halloween costume for school.
This year, there's not even the slightest chance it would fit me.
Maybe next year!

I still haven't felt Baby Bolt move.
You'd think I'd be able to feel a sweet potato doing somersaults inside of me, right?
But, no.
Not yet.

I'm 19 weeks today!
And, this time next week, we'll know if we're having a boy or a girl!
Can't wait!!

Seventeen

I wasn't in a hurry to post this.
Once again, there wasn't much change this week.
Then, my sister started complaining about the delay. :)
So, here you go!

We will find out if we're having a boy or a girl at our next appointment on Oct. 23!
Can't wait!
I'd love to hear what you guys think.
Boy or girl??

In other news, we'll be starting our birthing classes (Bradley Method) in a few weeks.
Ben is excited about the "large poster" we'll be receiving.
Makes us laugh to think about consulting a poster while in labor. :)

Oh! And I found a fantastic chiropractor, Dr. John Davis at Atlas Chiropractic.
He specializes in pregnancy, so that's convenient.
And, he made the shooting pain in my hip go away.
I wanted to kiss him.
But, I didn't.
That would've been awkward.
