9 months old!

Dear Alice,
Today you are 3/4 of a year old.
Here are 9 things about you:

1. I believe you have reached the end of your "stranger danger" phase for now.
It started last week when you let several of our friends hold you during a Christmas party and has continued.
Thank you for that!

2. Your sleep isn't great, but it's not terrible either.
You're typically up twice a night; sometimes 3 times.
You go to bed around 6:45/7 and wake up around 6:45/7.

3. You are an eating champ!
You don't seem to enjoy the typical foods babies eat, though.
For example, you don't want anything to do with bananas.
But, you were all over a salmon omelette the other morning.
You even ate the capers!

4. You click your tongue when we do it.
I love that you're starting to imitate us.

5. You weigh 16 pounds.
Still a peanut, but you're the perfect size to us.
Very portable. :)
Oh, and still no teeth.

6. You point to things all the time.
It's fun naming objects for you.
You also sign "more" and clap when we say, "Yay!"

7. You've made it 9 months, including your first Christmas, without toys with batteries.
Well, except for the .25 seahorse.
Anyway, I think that's a good thing. :)

8. You say Da-Da all the time, especially when I say, "Say Ma-Ma!"
I think you're doing it on purpose.

9. You aren't crawling, but you can go ahead and do that anytime now that the Christmas tree has been taken down.

We love you more than our words can describe, sweet Alice Claire.

Love, Your Mama

Ben asked me to be his wife the day after Christmas 2007.
It was one of my most favorite days.
I was SO surprised; never saw it coming.

My friend, Mandy, took engagement pictures of us.
It was so fun looking through them again this morning.

I love you, my sweet husband.
Thank you for marrying me!

A recap and review...

...of some of my favorite moments from today.

Ben and Alice reading a "new" bedtime book.

Ben surprised me with a new laptop!
I was shocked!

This was the moment my nephew asked my pregnant sister-in-law if she could
just "open the hatch" to get the baby out.

Always one of my favorite things:

Christmas is even more special sharing it with her.

We had such a wonderful day!
I already can't wait until next year.

Merry Christmas!

We don't have anything planned for today.
It's awesome!
I love relaxing, stay in your jammies, make coffee and pancakes, kind of Saturdays.
They're the best.

10 on 10, December edition

It's that time again!

Alice has decided to give yogurt another shot.
Contrary to what it looks like, she's gotten pretty good at feeding herself with the spoon.

One of my favorite new Christmas traditions:
framing each year's Christmas card photo for the tree.
This makes #3!

I love when she wakes up from naps happy!

Chrissy, just in case you missed my last post...

Packages and Christmas cards sent!
Do you see the tree in the tape reflection?
I could pretend I planned that, but I didn't.

Since I had my camera (aka "the big guy") out,
I thought I'd take some first Christmas pictures of Alice.
She was thrilled to oblige.

Sometimes I feel a little guilty about subjecting my child to copious amounts of picture taking.
However, I never feel guilty about making Jack join the party.
He'll do anything for cheese.

It was around 60 today here in Colorado.
We went outside to soak up some vitamin D.
It certainly does not feel like December here!

Well lookie there.
Alice just learned she can roll over to get in the presents.

I don't really like the last photo.
But, I like what it's a picture of.
It's our little fake fire place.
(We would NEVER be able to have a real fire going today. We would melt.)
And the "A" and "M" stockings I found at Goodwill.
(Ben gets the nondescript white one.)
I love the coziness of Christmas.

For my sister...

...because sometimes I still enjoy making her jealous. :)

Oh, and little black baby Jesus is at work with Ben.
I hope he comes home soon.

This little Nativity set was given to me by my Granny.
I love it.
Like, love, love, LOVE it!

It's a sign!

(from the Pottery Barn Kids catalog)

I'm trying to learn this from Dr. Seuss:

There's is a very good chance I got teary-eyed while looking through pictures from just a few months ago.
It's all just happening so fast!

I don't like packing up clothes that don't fit.
I don't like lowering the crib mattress.
I don't like that Alice won't eat "baby food" (purees).
I don't like having to change the snaps on her diapers to make them bigger.
I feel like I'm going to wake up and my baby isn't going to be a baby anymore.

I'm going to make extra effort to find the joy in those things; to smile...because it happened.

Life is so good.
We are so blessed.

Bath time!

I took Alice to meet Santa.
Turns out, she's not a fan.

8 months old!

Dear Alice,
Again, where has the time gone?
You're growing and changing each day.
While it's fun, it's also a little sad.
What happened to my tiny newborn?

Things you like:
Being in the stroller
Playing with Daddy
Strings, especially the strings on your boots
Eating puffs and other solid foods

Things you don't like:
Being held by anyone but Daddy or me
Pureed foods
Diaper changes
Clothing changes
Having your hair washed

(You look so old in the picture above!)

You're still pretty petite compared to other babies your age.
(Complete strangers love to tell me how small you are.
I think they're trying to give me a complex.)
You're the perfect size!
Still very portable. :)

You have quite the little personality!
It's fun seeing you communicate and express your preferences.
Recently, you say, "nuh, nuh, nuh, nuh" when you're mad.
It's almost like you're saying, " no, no, no, no".
You also say "da-da" all. the. time.
Still no "mama", but I'm being patient.

You're not crawling, but you're getting close.
I'm hoping you'll wait until after Christmas to start.
Maybe we can have one more tree spared from little hands?
Still no teeth.
I'm really, really okay with that.

Your sleeping has improved drastically from last month.
Thank you!
You now wake up once or twice during the night.
I can handle that.

You are precious, Alice Claire.
You make our lives so fun!
We love you very much.

Your Mommy
