Alice McChunky

Today was Alice's first real doctor appointment.
Up to this point, we've only seen our midwife.

Anyway, it's been confirmed:
Alice is growing like crazy!

Today she weighed 9 lbs, 5 oz and is 22" long.

She's in the 80th percentile for height.
90th for weight!
And that's for babies who are 1 month old.
(She's 5 days shy of being a month old.)

We have a healthy and happy baby!

I end with a picture of "tummy time".
PS- I hate saying "tummy time". What a dumb name.

You know how sunflowers turn throughout the day to follow the sun?
Alice does the same thing.

She turns her face toward the window where the sun is shining through.

I think it's really cute.

Then again, I think everything she does is cute.

Have no idea what I'm talking about with the sunflower thing?
Here you go.

Things I Love About Today:

1. Alice's hair.
I washed it this morning and this is what happened.
It's out of control and I love it.
A nice mom probably would've re-wet it and try to tame it a little.
Not me.
I just laughed at it's unruliness and put a headband on it.

2. We have growth!
I can't wait to have a garden again this year!

3. Alice's outfit.
It kinda looks like a rainbow threw up on her.
I wear black almost everyday.
My maternity clothes being too big and my regular clothes too small.
I wear black to try to hide.
Alice wears enough color for the both of us. :)

4. Cloth diaper success!
Today is her 3rd day in them.
We're figuring it out.
Today we tried prefolds.
They're a little trickier, but I'm hoping it helps cut down on the frequency of laundering.

5. On a related note:
My friend, Stefanie, got this magnet for me.
Makes me smile everyday.
I love it.

6. Baby Smart Wool socks.
These little treasures were in a bag of hand-me-downs.
They're one of the few pairs that actually stay on her feet.
So cute!

7. This pacifier:
My Granny calls it a "fooler".
You have to say it with a strong Southern accent to get the full effect.

I tried all of the small, clear, unobtrusive foolers I could find.
She hated them.
Out of desperation I purchased this monstrosity.
It's enormous and blue.
I can't say she loves it, but she tolerates it long enough to fall asleep.

8. These eyes:
She's now 3 weeks, 2 days old.
I can't believe it's only been 3 weeks.
It feels like forever ago when we saw those sweet eyes for the first time.
Life is good.
Very, very good.
We are so blessed!

It's the final countdooowwwwnnn...

This is it.
8 disposable diapers left.
When they're gone, which will be in about 5 minutes since we seem to fly through them, we're making the switch to cloth.
Wish us luck!!

Turns out...

Jack doesn't like them either.

Upsetting the Baby

The noise-canceling headphones for Alice arrived today.
Now her little ears will be protected in loud environments...like church, concerts, fireworks, ...and maybe k-group girls nights. :)

She knows I'm up to something.

She's thinking, "What are you doing to me???"

I'm pretty sure she doesn't like them.

It's official.
She hates them.

I'll try again another day. :)

First bath!

Alice had her first real bath last night.

She was pretty unhappy when we first put her in the water.

Then, she started to come around.

Then, she seemed to be enjoying it!

We have a clean baby!

We love our chunky Alice Claire!

It's genetic.

Ben likes to point out that I furrow my eyebrows when I'm confused, irritated,
or just thinking about something.
I also do it when the sun is in my eyes.

Here's an unflattering photo just to give you a visual:

Then, we made this:
And she furrows her eyebrows like me!
Just proves the point that I can't help that I do it.
It's genetic. :)

Baby and Cadbury

I have a deep love for Cadbury creme eggs.
I allow myself to have one each year, but I feel like I have to earn it.
Last year, I hiked the incline.

This year, I birthed a child.

I'm pretty sure that deserves more than just one.
I've had 2 so far. :)
(One for each week, right?)
And there's a few more left.
It's a dangerous thing.

2 weeks old

I might be a little obsessed with our kid.

The thing is, I just can't get over how much she seems to change each day!

I want to capture every single moment...

(This is her "cool peace" picture for the Mt. Hope Preschool girls!)

...because I know that we'll soon turn around and she'll be grown.

And that freaks me out a bit.

Dear Alice,
Please don't grow up too fast!
Love, Your Mommy

For Alice, it was another day of firsts.
I guess that's pretty typical when you're only 8 days old.

- First time at church.
She did great!
I was a little on edge though.
Worship was loud, so I couldn't have heard her if she cried.
And, the lights are turned down so low that I couldn't see her.
(We've gone to that church for almost 2 years and I had never thought about that until now.)
She snoozed the entire time! Yay!
I ordered some little noise canceling headphones for next time.
I'm a little sensitive about babies being in very loud environments.

- First Easter!
Is it terrible that we didn't make an Easter basket for her?
What would we have filled it with when all she really wants is milk, a clean diaper, a nap, and cuddles?
She wore her Aunt Emily's little dress from when she was a baby. SO cute!
I subjected Alice to an Easter photo shoot, complete with bunny ears.
It was mandatory.

-First k-group gathering.
We got together and ate a wonderful meal.
Then, Ben and I put together an Easter egg hunt for our friends.
Afterward, we gathered together to take a group picture...minus me since I was taking the picture.

Then, Alice received her first bonk.
Kevin lost his balance and reached out to steady himself, making contact with Alice in the process.
She was startled, but was totally fine...so I kept taking pictures. :)

I love the looks on everyone's faces!

All in all, it was a wonderful day!
He is risen!

More pictures of the little lady

This is my favorite thing to do:
...snuggle with our sleepy daughter.
I LOVE that she sometimes sleeps with her mouth open.

My mom, Alice's Nona, is here for the week.
It's been so nice having extra hands while Ben is at work.
Mom is helping to boost my mommy confidence.
We've been running errands, we washed her hair, and even went out for lunch...at a restaurant!

While at P.F. Changs, Alice received her first fortune cookie.
"Welcome the change coming soon into your life."
I laughed so hard!
Alice has MANY changes to come in her life.
One about every 3-4 hours these days.

After nursing, Alice is wide awake for about an hour before falling into a deep milk coma.
This is what she does for that hour:
The furrowed brow stare down.
We love it!

I'm not sure if life can get any better than this!
