February Challenge, week 4 + Leap day happiness

Well, this past week was kind of a flop.

I painted some trim...
I still have a TON left to paint.

I organized Alice's baby clothes,
pulling out ones I didn't love to give away.

Cleaned the office...

Oh well!
I tried!

On a brighter note, this extra day in February brought some exciting things around here.

1. Alice thew away her pacifiers!
She took a nap and went to bed with no problem.
Never asked for them.

2. She peed on the potty for the first time today!
I'm glad my reaction was not filmed.
I acted like a complete idiot.
A happy, proud idiot.

3. All 3 hens laid eggs today!

A good day, indeed!

We've had 3 hens for 10 days now, so I'm pretty much an expert.

But, here's our little chicken story...

I bought a coop off Craigslist.
It's from a teenager who is very involved in 4-H.
We also adopted our hens from him.
Super sweet kid.

We got two Australorps...

And one Ancona...

They laid around 10 eggs in the first week!
From today:

Alice loves chasing them around the yard.

Jack is finally getting used to them.
We're almost living in harmony around here.

It snowed a couple days after we got them.
They didn't seem to like the snow.
Thankfully, it melted quickly and they were back to roaming around the yard.

We let them out in the morning and they return to their coop when it's getting dark.

Alice likes to wear my "chicken boots".

In short, this whole backyard chicken thing is going really great!

Alice sits in the sink when she brushes her teeth.
I wanted to capture it in a photo before she grows out of it.

Dear Alice,
You are now 23 months old!

You're talking like crazy, adding new words all the time.
"Guacamole" is my favorite word you say.
You're also speaking in sentences like,
"I don't see it."
"Alice have a biiiiiig poop."

You're still a really great eater.
Last night you had a bunch of brussels sprouts.
Makes me so proud!
(Brussels sprouts are my favorite.)

You love when we quiz you on things like,
"Are banana's purple?" and
"Do cats say meow?"
You answer with "Yes!" or "Noooooo".

(With Cow, your favorite toy.)

You're also recalling details from stories.
I ask you lots of questions while changing your diaper.
It's a good distraction. :)
When talking about "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie",
I'll ask you things like,
"What does the mouse drink?" or
"Does the mouse ride in an airplane?"
You always give the correct answer.

(This is your sad face.)

Another recent discovery is that you know who is a boy and who is a girl.
Mama, Daddy, Nana, Zion, Hudson, Abby, Iris, Grandpa, etc.
You almost always answer correctly.
The little babies are a little trickier for you.

(Showing me your teeth.)

When I ask you,
"Who made you so cute/sweet/smart/funny?"
you answer with,
I love it.

Okay, I could go on and on about the fun things you're doing.
I'll save some for your 2 year old letter next month.
Next month!?

I love you, my sweet baby girl.

Love, Your Mama

Daddy's home!

This has been the fanfare Ben receives when he comes home...

Alice hides.

She says, "Shhhhh!"

Hides, again.

The excitement begins!

She takes off, wanting to be chased.

It's pretty much my favorite thing.

Have you heard about Colortopia?
Several design bloggers paired up with Glidden paint.

It's awesome!
You can click on the advice link and ask decorating questions.
You can even upload a picture.

Here's my question:

Isn't that great?

Now, do I take the advice and go with a shade of teal for the wall color?
I'm afraid of the bathroom looking too dark and dungeony.
(Spell check doesn't think "dungeony" is a word.)

I'd love your advice!

February Challenge, week 3

I bet you can hardly contain yourself!

Here we go.

The coop, again-

It's finished and the hens moved in yesterday!

The basement closet
aka, where I quickly threw things when people were coming over-

And lastly, the master closet-

I picked up this stainless steel-looking contact paper from a garage sale last summer.
I finally had a good use for it. :)
I walk through IKEA's closet section and drool.
One day, one day...
Until then, this will have to do!

Alice went to a party yesterday.
I thought I'd try to take pictures of her in her festive outfit.
I even tried bribery.

Double fisting the water cups.

Alice's valentine=

She insisted on wearing the tutu ALL day.
Taking her picture was SO much easier before she was mobile!

Happy Valentine's Day, friends!

February Challenge, week 2

The whole "don't spend money" rule has been the most difficult aspect of my little challenge.

Here's what I worked on this past week:

Cleaning/organizing the garage
Looks pretty much the same, right?
I hate that.
It took much more effort than it looks.

Hey, but look!
I made a .gif!
That's kind of fun.

Basement bathroom
I will never understand why anyone would put carpet in a bathroom.

I took out the old carpet and pad,
removed a bajillion tack strips,
cleaned the floor,
and then painted it.
We'll one day put something else down,
but until then, it's not carpeted!

Want another .gif?
You're in luck!

That bathroom still needs a lot of work,
but it's moving in the right direction!

Lastly, the coop.
I painted the roof.
I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy the paint to do the rest of it.
I'm such a crazy rule breaker.
More on the coop later.
Not much to share at this point except that we have a chicken coop in our backyard.

Dramatic much?

Ben told Alice not to walk on the ice on our steep-ish driveway.

Makes me think of this.

10 on 10, February

Capturing the beauty in our ordinary moments.

I tried the Pinterest "keeping your berries longer by washing them with vinegar water" thing.
It's not really working.

Ben and I won the little Newlywed Game at MOPS (POPS day) this morning.
Chocolate is the best prize ever.

Its fun taking a picture of a camera.
That was in our Craft Weekend swag.

Those are the red ones.

That's what Alice does when we ask to see her muscles.
It's my favorite.

Can I get a virtual pat on the back for keeping our poinsettia alive for so long?
Looks like she needs a bath though.

Jesus Calling is a fantastic devotional, if you're looking for one.
Short, but very sweet.

Burlap heart bunting on the mantle.

Thank you, Starbucks, for the happy cup.

Those are notes I've been putting in Ben's lunchbox each day.
