PSAs

1. Costco has the best workout pants in the entire world.
Ben even said, "I've noticed you wear those pants a lot.
Maybe you should get another pair."
Done!
True story: I texted people to talk about these pants.
Things like, "I'm working out and can't stop thinking about how much I love these pants."
and, "I think my pants are laced with drugs. That's how much I love them."
(Click on the picture to read about some other girl's love of these pants.)

2. Did you know you can shoot a mylar/helium balloon with water
to get it down from your vaulted ceilings?
Yep.
It's like magic.
Life changed.
Thank you, Dollar Tree employee.
(Don't do that. Water gun, people!)

3. My friend, Cathy, is making ridiculously cute camera cases.
Here's her etsy shop.

4. Colorado Springs friends,
Francesca's just opened in the Shops of Briargate.
It's a store full of reasonably priced awesomeness.
I always love their dresses.

This concludes tonight's public service announcements.

California

Tonight at bedtime...

Ben: I hope you're a good sleeper tonight.
Alice: HONK! (and honks Ben's nose)
Ben: I love you.
Alice: I hope you pee your pants!!! (hysterical laughter)

Oh man.
The almost-3-year-old wears us out!
She is the master of diversion.
Her highs are high.
Her lows are low.
One moment she'll be cracking herself up just by saying the word, California.
The next, the world is ending because the spoon she wants is in the dishwasher.
She keeps us on our toes.
She's inquisitive.
Having a preschooler means having the most random conversations in the world all day, every day.
It's mostly awesome. :)

Here's a sweet moment from this morning:

Valentine's 2013

I loved today.
Not because it's Valentine's Day,
but because we had a really sweet family day.
Ben took the day off work, which was such a fun surprise!

Alice woke up to a butterfly balloon, a decorated kitchen table,
and a special breakfast.
She kept saying everything, was "so cute!"

Our little one had a visit with her mom this morning,
so Alice and I took Ben to our favorite coffee shop.

She jumped in puddles on the walk back.

We had a low-key rest of the morning.
Then, the girls both took super naps!
I decided to be lazy during nap time.
(You know, since it's a "holiday" and all.)
I watched New Girl, Modern Family, and Nashville...
my trifecta of television happiness.

After the girls woke and were given some calories,
we went to the mall to ride the train and see puppies.

Most pleasant trip to the mall ever.
Everyone was happy.

Then, we went to Chick-fil-a for dinner.
They had a special Valentines deal going on and it was so, so great.
Candy, flowers, a candle, and balloons on the tablecloth-covered tables.
Roses for the mamas.
Free ice cream.
We were seated at our table and had a waiter.
They brought our food out on plates and drinks in clear cups.
(It's the little things, y'all.)
The staff was all dressed up all fancy like.
No extra charge...you just pay for whatever you wanted to eat.
I kept saying, "This is so great!"
We'll be doing this again, for sure.
It was a perfect special dinner with kids in tow.

Alice was so excited about the cow...
until he came over to visit.

The little one got in on the festivities as well.

I really hope I'll be able to post her sweet face on here someday.
If that happens, watch out.
I've taken a million pictures of her and will subject you to most of them. :)

Happy Valentine's Day to you all
and to all a good night!

Bath Paints

For Christmas, I made our niece and nephews some bath paints.
We tested it out to be sure it worked and would clean up easily.

Then, I made this little tag to go with the gift:

Everything looks normal, right?

Wrong.
I made the picture black and white because I made red bath paint for Alice.
It looked like a crime scene.
I sent pictures to my mom and sister to which they replied,
"Do NOT post those pictures!
DHS will be on your doorstep in no time."

Well, since DHS is on my doorstep at least once a month anyway,
(for foster care)
I'm going to show you the original picture...
simply because it makes me laugh.

Kinda gross, right?
Wait, here's a better one:
Looks like an episode of CSI.
(I've never actually seen an episode of CSI.)

She LOVED it.
And, it washed off super quick and easy.

Why am I thinking about this now?
Because we painted in the tub again today.
This time, with watercolors.
She had just as much fun, and it was even easier than making the other stuff.

Much cleaner.
Much cuter pictures. :)

Some things...

I cleared the photos off my phone and have some real gems to share.

1. Being a mom is so glamorous.
I have clean clothes for about 5 minutes each morning.

2. I loved this spelling of Melissa:
Photo #1 shows that my name really should probably be Messlia.

3. Read this book:
Go on now.
You won't be sorry.
Don't read the description.
That'll make you say, "Meh. Doesn't sound very interesting."
But do look at how many stars it has on Amazon.
I read it in one day.
That's unheard of for me these days.
Alice may or may not have watched a copious amount of Netflix shows that day.

4. I bought a blue piano the other day.
It was $150.
Then, I saw this:
And felt even better about the purchase.
My piano is WAY prettier than the $4,600 one.

5. Alice is learning how to plank.
She needs to work on her form.

6. Nap time naughtiness:

7. I saw this on Pinterest:

Good stuff.

8. There's no 8.
This is the end.

Tiny Gamer

Ben and I have always enjoyed playing board games.
So, it's really fun to see this happening:

Side note: Alice doesn't really understand why going down the slides is a bad thing.
I think she has a really good point.
Slides are fun!
Snakes and Ladders makes a lot more sense.
Snakes are not fun.

Remembering

I often find Alice doing this:
She's looking at a little book I made with Instagram photos.
She loves it.
And I love that she loves it.

Brave

It's interesting to see the difference in what Ben and I are comfortable with.
He's okay with things like this:

I don't think the pictures do it justice.
That climbing structure is so high!
Made me nervous to watch.

And I'm okay with things like this:

Arts and crafts > Adventure
I think I'm getting old.
